Ma’ heo’o Reiki
Ma'heo'o Reiki Lesson 1 - An Introduction
Spiritual and Emotional health cannot be cured with a drug, there must be a change in our perception.
The Cheyenne word Ma'heo'o translates to Great Spirit, Great One or God.
This system of energy combines the elements of Earth, Air, Water and
Fire with Great Spirit to effectively promote and activate healing in
the human condition.
This system, simple, yet powerful, can be used by anyone.
There are five symbols incorporated into this system of healing. The
first 4 represent the elements and enable us to connect with and channel
Mother
Earth's energies. When combined with Great Spirit and activated, this
becomes a very powerful system capable of promoting and enabling great
energy,
channeling ability, use of healing light and color, higher intellect,
grounded-ness, as well as promoting calming, peace and relaxation. This
system combines
the gentleness of Reiki with the raw power of the Earth elements. It can
bring you into contact with your spirit totems, give you your sacred
name and balance
your body with the 5 elements.
There are 3 attunements involved, in Ma'heo'o" Reiki.
The first two are to enable a better connection and a heightened sense
of the elements through Mother Earth. Not only do the symbols allow
harmony of the
elements of Mother Earth, they allow harmony of the elements as they
pertain to the human condition. The 3rd is the Master level which
connects you with Great
Spirit; enabling you to harness the power of Earth and Spirit to
effectively use the light as it facilitates, promotes and activates your
healing from within.
Native American Spirituality One Aspect of a Holistic World Perspective
To speak of religion or categories of belief is not a concept practiced
by Native American peoples. In Native American spirituality, the threads
of every day
life are closely woven with spiritual belief. Every living thing has a
spirit and must be respected. The earth is "Home", they never considered
a
heaven. It was their belief that they were created of the Earth by the
Great spirit and supplied with (by the earth) every thing they needed to
sustain life.
There was no need of a "heaven" because all were connected by spirit
here on Earth. The Great spirit makes visits through visions.
Native American spirituality is based in part on the land. They bond
with their environment; land, plants, animals and weather conditions.
There is, on one
hand, a belief in a Great Spirit, the specific power of spirit appearing
in all things and individuals. The Great Spirit can manifest himself in
everything and
by this appear to searching people in a vision. This power of the spirit
is also called "medicine". Everything has a soul or its own spirit and
can,
by this, be medicine and help all other beings and spirits to function.
The medicine of the Native American tribes is omnipotent.
One has to use it at the right time while calling the spirit needed.
Every plant, every animal, even the stones, the soil, and climatic
phenomena have a soul
which is connected with and depending on other surrounding souls and
spirits. To call the spirit needed and to meet other spirits in visions
might be helpful
when suffering from any disease. Calling the spirits needed is
"medicine". Medicine according to the Native American definition is
meant to be the
personal power of being connected with the other souls.
The cycle of nature witnesses the everlasting timelessness and
strengthens the consciousness of the ever returning process of creation
and genesis. Creation is
ongoing and renewing itself following the seasons.
Some of the Native American tribes used to see the processes creating
our world as autonomic beings or creatures which appear as wind, soil or
in the shape of
an animal or a plant. Those beings are closely related to the humans, In
many of the Native American beliefs, humans are relatives to animals,
plants, stones,
or natural phenomena.
If they do not respect the beings surrounding them, this, as a
consequence would destroy the world order and harmony within the circle
of spirits, animals,
stones, plants, and humans. Nature and spirituality are connected in
"Mother Earth".
Dreams and visions play a significant role in Native American societies.
What is seen in them can be helpful for the seeking person, as well as
it can be
interpreted as a view into the future of the whole tribe.
History Of.
Many of the Native American people believe (d) that the power of the
spirits can be called for help in a vision. When summoned by a person on
their vision
quest, sprits are able to manifest themselves in animals or plants.
People who already had "their" vision think that humans are empowered with the power of the spirit when having a vision.
Spirits, ghosts and spiritualized energies can be implored by a lonesome
search for the vision - often far away from civilization. Some of the
Plains' and
south-western tribes believe (d) that the leather frame of the war
shields, produced with the help of a holy person or a shaman, can work
as a symbol that
attracts the spirits of protection.
Unwanted spirits used to appear in dreams - to work against it, a talisman can be used.
The Vision Quest
Many of the tribes come into contact with the spirits on a vision quest,
longing for their own spiritual power. Although, traditionally children
and juveniles
are more likely to find their own visions as a part of a rite of
initiation, a vision quest can be perused in older age. Most of the
tribes believe that the
experience of such a quest is necessary and useful for both genders.
As a preparation for the quest, body and soul must be cleaned. If
children are sent out to find their spirit, they are advised beforehand
what to search for.
They are also given a symbol for the spirit they want to find.
Importance of Oral Tradition:
In order to understand, dispel stereotypic myths, and gain some insight
on the stories of Native American people, it is imperative to understand
that they see
the oral tradition as the means to establish their relationships between
themselves, their past, and between themselves and nature. The language
transporting
the stories or the oral tradition has always been expressed trough the
use of storytellers who pass down cultural traditions from one
generation to the next.
Most of the tribes of ancient times used storytelling because it was
more than important to pass on all of the knowledge of a tribe.
Furthermore, the stories
were a part of social life. Western anthropology tends to treat
"narrations" as "myths" or "mythology", while the Native American
tribes preferred the term "holy stories" - or simple "stories" - which,
according to the Native Americans attitude of life contains much
more than only words.
"Mythology", in their ears, sounds too fictional, while the stories told
include more wisdom and traditions than fiction. Many of the native
American
people feel the stories about the origin of mankind and the holy
creatures to be real. Some of those creatures are connected with fixed
association, as for
example "coyote" in many tribes is understood as a trickster and
storyteller himself. "Spiderwoman", to mention another figure embodying
special characteristics, is "responsible" for stories as well. With her
long legs and threads she is able to weave a story consisting of other
"sub-stories" and by this to create a web covering past, presence and
future.
Although stories are most often told by the storytellers, who usually
get paid with natural produce, the stories everybody experiences in his
or her life
aren't less important. All that is experienced during a life is
important and is seen as a part of history. They embody the past, the
present and the
future . Without these values, it is hard to survive - in the Great
Plains of former times and in the cities of today.
About Reiki
Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) is a method of natural healing based on the
application of Universal Life Force Energy (the name literally means
Universal Life
Force Energy).
Reiki is a term originally used to refer to a system of healing and
self-development created by Mikao Usui in Japan in the early part of the
20th Century.
Simply stated, Reiki can be said to be a synergistic combination of 'spiritual healing' and 'energy healing' techniques.
Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-invasive form of hands-on healing that
increases energy, reduces pain, produces deep relaxation and a general
feeling of
well-being. Reiki initiation attunes a practitioner to become a channel
for the Reiki energy and is a powerful, life-changing experience for
growth along your
spiritual path.
Reiki initiations are for life.
Reiki is a gentle, yet profound, non-invasive therapy, which can
facilitate stress-reduction and relaxation, support effective
immune-system function, enhance
the body's self-healing mechanisms, and replenish and nurture vitality.
Reiki can be effectively used in combination with other therapies - both
allopathic and 'alternative' - and has been shown to effectively
stimulate the
relaxation response.
Rather than acting solely on a physical level, Reiki is holistic in its
effect - eliciting a healing response across the entire spectrum of ones
being -
physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.
It can prove beneficial in the resolving of physical disorders, nervous
conditions and emotional issues, and help nurture a greater sense of
balance,
well-being, and wholeness in ones life.
Reiki has no negative side effects, and does not require any concentration on the part of the client.
While there are various theories as to how Reiki might work, there is no
clear answer to this - all that can be said for certain is that it
does.
Disease, disharmony, un-wellness is believed to occur due to
disruptions/inhibitions in the flow of vital life force within our
being.
Many believe that the specific radiant energy-pattern which we call
Reiki, emanating from the practitioner's hands, simply assists the body
to
'correct' and re-balance the flow of our life force, thus returning us
to a state of wellness and generally enhancing the quality of our
experience of
our life.
Reiki Masters teach Reiki as well as provide treatments; Reiki Practitioners do hands-on and/or remote Reiki treatments.
Just for today, do not worry
Just for today, do not anger
Earn your living honestly
Honor your parents, teachers and elders
Show gratitude for every living thing
-- Dr. Mikao Usui
About Energy Healing
Energy Field Healing is a form of body works and may include many
different combinations of several different techniques, depending on the
experience, training
and intuition of the practitioner. Body works is an umbrella term used
to describe the many techniques that promote relaxation and treat
ailments.
Energy Field Healing also known as Energy Medicine, Energy Therapy,
Energy Healing or Biofield Therapeutics is based on the premise that the
human body is
composed of various energy fields and that people become ill when those
fields become blocked, out of balance or otherwise disturbed. Energy
Therapists attempt
to restore health by first detecting and then removing the blockages,
ect.
Energy Therapists use a wide variety of techniques to balance and
release the body's energy flow. Most involve the practitioner's placing
his/her hands
very near the patients body. The hands should not touch the body because
the energy fields extend out several inches from the body. It would be a
rare or very
critical situation if the patient's body actually needed to be touched.
In general there are two views as to how energy field healing actually
heals. One is that the practitioner directs or modifies the patients'
energy field
in a way that facilitates healing. The other is that the source of the
healing comes not from the practitioner but from a universal energy or
higher power. It
is my belief that both assessments are true. First you bring in the
energy from a higher universal source, and then you use it to direct or
modify the
patients' energy field in a way that facilitates healing.
The Earliest reference to energy healing can be found in Chinese texts
written 2,500-5,000 years ago. Hypocrites also described the healing
power of "The
force that flows from many people's hands."
In the late 100's an Austrian physician named Franz Mesmer popularized
the technique of laying on of hands in Europe and America with his
"magnetic
healing" treatments. (Mesmer was also the physician responsible for
developing the foundations for our modern day hypnosis, hence the term
mesmerized.)
This technique gained renewed popularity during the 1970's when Delores
Krieger, a nursing professor at New York University began teaching a
hands-on
healing method she called Therapeutic Touch.
For each level of Ma'heo'o" Reiki it is a recommendation that you also
receive the attunement that corresponds with that level. Energy
attunements
are helpful to gain the full benefit of the healing levels and to
activate your ability to practice the required techniques. The
attunements make it much
easier to begin powerful, effective energy channeling.
*Ma'heo'o Reiki is not meant to replace conventional medicine, but
rather compliment and enhance it. It is of the utmost importance that
you make your
patients understand this. Ma'heo'o Healing Practitioners do not diagnose
or claim treatment for any physical or psychological ailments,
prescribe any
substances, make any health claims or guarantee any outcome.
Ma'heo'o Reiki is offered as a spiritual practice, No other claims are made.
